1898 S.Y. Wayward

The phrase "Gentleman's racing yacht" is, perhaps, most aptly suited to this jewel of a yacht. Whilst a Gaff rig she does not demand the sinews and muscles of other yachts of her era but does revel in the stronger winds and can give many a larger yacht a surprise at the finish line! In 2001 at the 'America's Cup Jubilee Regatta she came 2nd in her Class and she will be 'performing at many more regattas in 2005.

On deck her beautiful lines, superb spacious teak deck, and spectacular varnish on the Doghouse and skylights speaks of incredible effort on the part of her Owner and the crew that is admired by landsmen and yachtsmen alike. This is continued below where the varnished paneling, leaded glass drinks cabinet and gimballed table in the Saloon take you back 100 years or more.

The work that went in to restoring this genuine 'Vintage' yacht was begun in 1996 and has never stopped until 2004 when the previous owner felt he had finished and needed a 'rest'. The new owners are prepared to make the commitment a yacht such as this demands and have agreed to put her to work so that others may enjoy her as much as they do.

Spectacular for 'Classic' regattas and racing "WAYWARD" is what is termed as a 'dry' boat in that she does not take as much water on deck as others and is also 'stiff' in that she does not heel very far. This can make for a comfortable day out or Evening 'Sunset' cruise in varied wind conditions.

There is a cosy double cabin forward for guests with an en-suite shower/toilet and accommodation for crew aft of the Saloon and under the cockpit.

"WAYWARD" does not pretend to be luxurious - this is how it was 100 years ago with the exception of the shower, running hot and cold water, Gas cooker, engine, electric light etc etc so don't worry - she is very comfortable.

Suitable for Day Sailing and racing for up to twelve guests she can be booked for 'week long' events but you will need to be 'Shore-based' for the night-time; this has the advantage of giving the crew the chance to have her in top condition for you each morning.
